Can't find my RPO codes.
I can't find the RPO codes on my 1986 Firebird Trans-Am. The car used to belong to my brother and I know he changed the interior from tan to grey, but I'm not sure if he changed the center console as I know this is where the codes are usually located from the messages I have read on this board. Anyway when I lift up the cover on the center console I don't see any stickers at all. I even checked the left rear storage well in the back because I read a message from someone saying that they found the codes there, but I found nothing. Are my codes missing and gone for good? Or might they be located somewhere else on the car? Where should I look? I want to know what the car came originally equipped with. Thanks... Mike
Mike,
Welcome aboard!
The original RPO label should be stuck to the right wall of the inside of the center console compartment. If it's gone, you might still find residue from the adhesive in that location. The rear cargo compartment is another possibility that you've already mentioned.
Short of that, you might try searching the recesses of the interior for a copy of the original line build sheet. These have all the RPOs found on the label and more. They can often be found under the rear seat cushions, woven into the front seat springs, behind kick panels, in the spare tire well, and under the Velcro seam at the joint of the front and rear carpets. The factory assemblers usually left them in the car and the dealer prep people seldom bothered to hunt them down and remove them.

Glad to be here Vader. Thanks for the help. So basically it could be behind every interior peice of the car which I don't have. Like I said the original has been changed over like I said from tan to grey. I wonder why they did'nt stick it to something non removable like a floor panel or something? I guess I'll have to hunt for it. I wish I knew right where it was though so I did'nt have to tear the interior apart. Not just that, doing that and still coming up with zip would really p*** me off. Thanks again... Mike
you want an easy way to get the RPO codes back? do what I did, my car was through six different owners!! yes, and the sheet was bleached white after all that so I went to my local GM dealer's service counter, showed them my registration with my VIN number on it and they printed out the sheet for me for free! Can't say that your dealer will be as nice but you can always try or try another dealer instead.
