305 to 350 radiator questions
Since there isn't a board on "cooling" systems, I decided to post my question here. I have a 91 RS convertible, and am trying to find the time to swap in a TPI 350 that I have. Since the swap keeps getting delayed, I have come up with a question:
What will need to change as far as my cooling system? I plan on changing the water pump out, but what else? Is the stock radiator OK? Fan? Do I need a tranny or oil cooler? If so, where would be the best place to pick these up for a reasonable price? I'm not sure, but I think my engine will be making a little better than 300 horses. Thanks
James

I had this same question not long ago. I understand that it is necessary to upgrade to a dual fan system if you don't have one.

J,
It might not hurt to plumb in a transmission cooler AFTER the cooler in the right radiator tank. The benefit of having the cooler in the right tank is that the trans oil gets warmed up faster at cold starts. This is not a serious problem in 85°F weather, but extra cold trans oil can be tough on seals, valving, and servos/accumulator. Any heat that the original cooler can't reject will be handled by the external radiator.
