can this temp be right ??

My car is only running a little over a 100 degrees according to the dash gauge. I have a 180 degree stat. and my fans run all the time - i "think" the termostat. is opening so I think the sensor, gauge, or sensor connector is screwed up ?? i don't have any heat either ( could be unrelated i guess) - what do you guys think ? Is it possible that with the both fans on and the cool weather that my car is not running hot enough to open the termostat up ??

100 degrees? WOW... that's low. As for your problem/question, I have no idea. But 100 degrees is pretty friggin' low. Isn't stock operating temp around 200 degrees???

If you are not getting hotter than 100*F, then your engine is probably not going into closed loop. Your gas mileage should be way down and if you have an automatic, you should not feel your TC locking up.

Have you tried changing the T-stat? Also, your temperature gauge sensor may not be working or the fan switch may be bad.

No heat from the heater is a sure sign of cold coolant. Your thermostat is stuck open big time! The fans running all the time certainly doesn't help either. Get a new t-stat and see if the fan relays are stuck or the temperture sensor hasn't gone bad. If there's a short between the ECM and the temp sensor, the ECM will think that the engine is overheated and will run the fans to cool things off.

hey guys, i should have been more clear. this is a car with a carb and no computer. i had a new thermostat in and just put another new one in, i don't think that is it - i think my gauge may be screwed, i will check and see, still, if the gauge is broke i should have heat, i mean the stat. should just work on its own. so i think my heat problem may lie elsewhere. i don't think it is possible for two fans to keep an engine that cold, even while idling ? thanks again
