Adjusting Fuel Pressure on Mallory 4309

ya i was just wondering how to set the fuel pressure on that mallory 4309 regulator... i had a guage hooked up to it like i took the end off the carburetor and turned the key so the pump was pushin.. and the guage read like 2 , 2 1/2... PSI... carb should have 5.5 - 6.5 right... but is that the accurate reading i got or did i do it all wrong.. ?? but theres that alanhead screw intop of the regulator with a nut on it.... just lossen the nut and turn the alanhead screw in or out to ajust the pressure right... when i did that i turned it almost all the way out and it stayed right at that 2 , 2 1/2 psi... i must be doin it all wrong or somethin... i need some guidance as too what and how i should actually be doing this... thanks for the help..

2½ psi is probably fine. Carbs don't care what the fuel pressure is, as long as it's enough to keep the fuel bowl filled under all conditions. Too much pressure however will force the needle off the seat, and allow the fuel level in the bowk to become too high or possibly even lose control of the level altogether and make fuel spew out of every hole in the carb.

3-4 psi is usually entirely enough for any street application.
