Speedo not working after motor swap
Speedo not working after motor swap
I have just done a 5.0TBI to ZZ4TPI swap. I used an '89 computer and wiring harness that seems to work fine. The car runs great except for a few "bugs". One of these is the speedometer. The '90 computer controlled the speedo. It appears that the '89 computer is not equipped to handle this task and I need to find a reasonable solution (no speedo with this engine is a bad combination). To complicate things further, the original 700R4 tranny has been replace with a '97 T56 using a Cyberdyne calibration box. This setup worked great before the engine/computer/wiring change. I know this may be alot to ask, but I'd like to leave the instrument cluster alone if possible. Any help/ suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Rob.
well i had a problem like that. I put in my 700r-4 and being the genious i was at first, forgot to put in the speedo gear into the transmission. So if you have an electronic speedo i think i dont think its gonna work right unless you put a speedo gear into your transmission and plug in the connector from the harness.

The biggest problem I have is that the computer was changed. The computer I'm using now doesn't recognize speed sensor input. The harness that came with the computer (factory '89 GM harness) didn't come with the two wires in the harness to pick up the signal from the transmission. I was trying to find a way to put the signal directly into the speedometer so it would work. I'd also like to get the cruise controll working too, but I'd be happy to just get the speedo working for now.
90FFbird, sorry i cant help much with your topic, i just watned to know how happy you are with the performance of the ZZ4. im considering that engine, or something along the same lines of it. does it perform as much as you'd like it to?
Performance wise, the ZZ4 is awesome. I've driven a few fast cars but this is a very strong engine. I'm sure there is alot of potential I haven't tapped yet with the TPI setup I have. But at least I have somewhere else to go with mods. I got a good deal on the intake/computer/wiring set and made use of it. The difference in this car is nothing short of amazing with the mods I've done this year. For now the performance is plenty..... but you know how that goes. There's always room for more later =). First I think I'l work out the kinks before I generate more.
