$250?!?!?!

Excuse me while I get back up off the floor......

What brand/style is the double roller you're looking to buy?

Stock roller cams have a retainer plate that bolts to the block and keeps the roller cam from walking out the front. You have to make sure the double roller timing chain set has the smaller bolt pattern for a factory roller cam.

Other than that, make sure it will fit behind the factory timing cover.

That would be the GM Parts Network price. I went through the same thing on my '94 LT1. Them puppies is expensive. That larger (about a 60) single roller chain is also a heckuva lot stronger than any double RC35 setup. It's also a bit heavier, but it will outlast the rest of the engine.

Oh, and they're SPROCKETS, not gears.

Geez, I thought plunking down $140 on a gear drive set was an investment. If I had to spend over $200 i'd just get a timing belt prefrence would be dry of course.

The problem with the LT1/4 engine is that the crank sprocket is a plain sprocket. The cam sprocket is also sprocket, but with gear teeth on the reverse side, and the mating gear drives the water pump through the timing cover. With the additional load of a heavier LT4 valve springs, more lift, and the water pump, the chain is made extra heavy. Even an LT1 timing set carries a $200+ price tag, and no one in the aftermarket makes them that I'm aware of except for the Comp Cams 3206 ($599.95 list price). Where's the bargain, now?
