No Spark
I had my car started about 2 nights ago for the first time with the new engine. It ran for about 5minutes and then I let off the throttle for a split second and it died. It did restart momentarily, but the guy who was helping me panicked when he seen it was 12 base advanced and turned the Dist about 1/3 of a turn all at once which killed it again. Now the Car will not restart. Some of the plugs were black b/c of a rich condition, but all have been cleaned, and still, no spark. Any Ideas?
Thanks
Thanks
BowTie,
12° is not that drastic, especially at idle speeds. So you can slap your friend around when you finally get your car running again.
As far as the spark problem, turning the distributor really shouldn't have caused any problems, as long as it was returned to the original position so the timing is closer to correct. If he moved the distributor really fast, he may have inadvertently pulled some wiring off the terminals. Make sure you have power to the coil BAT terminal. You can try to disconnect the EST by pass connector to make sure the timing remains at base position if you like.

Vader, thank you for the reply, I know that 12 is not that bad, but he did not, he said he knew what he was doing, guess not. I am thinking the same thing about the wires being pulled. I hope that is all. The car is carbed, so it has HEI with Vaccum advance. I think I am going to develop a knowledge test for all who wish to help me on my car, if they fail, they shall be shot on spot for BS'ing me about knowing what they are doing...HAHA Anyway, thanks again.
