Deck Height/comp. question...
Easy one... I need to check my comp.
4.030*3.75 ( 5.7 rods) and 65cc heads
Flat top -5.4 cc pistons
My pistons says: 0 deck height at 8.995 does this mean I have
0.030 in piston clearance?
/N.

Only way to know is to measure it.
Stock deck height (distance from centerline of crank to deck surface of block) is 9.000", -.000 or + .035" or so. Most stock blocks are at about 9.025-9.030". That means a piston with a nominal height of 8.995" is most likely about .030" down in the bore.
Again, the only way to know is to measure, it's different in every block. But that's a reasonable guess.
On the other hand, a guess isn't really good enough for being bothered with all that calculation.

RB is correct (as usual). In my few builds, I have measured a rough average (by recall, not any real notes) of about -0.015 deck height on the "average" SBC. I've used that number as an average or typical dimension on the downloadable calculator:
Engine Calculator.xls
That works with either MS Excel or Corel QuattroPro.
