if its not one things its another....

just stating a simple fact about these cars... if its not one thing it seems to be another... i can't ever go a month or even a few weeks without something else needed fixed or modified on my camaro... i just got the bad news today that my steering column is shot... the pins have worn the holes out so the pins don't fit anymore , which means getta spend 300 dollars on new steering column.. yaya so happy... just put on carb, intake, distributor, regulator... wow expensive.. but that was my choice... also the overrun clutches and overrun hub in my tranny just failed... tranny crap always fun.... I love my car to death even though if you own one you shouldn't plan on just payin bills for gas and oil but for everything else once or twice..... later

very down and depressed cars been in the shop constantly it seems... I miss her... can't wait to get it back, and to see what goes wrong next....

...And if it's not another, it's one thing.

Any vehicle, or for that matter, any assembly that gets the kind of use a vehicle normally gets, will require some attention routinely. Chances are the steering column could be saved if you found someone ambitious enough to ream and bush the tilt pivot pins. The lower tilt cradle is only a die cast aluminum, and will wallow very easily once there is any play. Bushing the pin pockets with bronze sleeves will permanently cure that. If you're not so inclined, you can replace the parts (still available) or the entire column with a good used one.

Incidentally, my '94 Impala was only four years old when the column started doing this:

ya well on my steering column i just had the pins and bushings replaced and everything in there fixed and a week after i got it back the column if you pulled down on it , it would move like 3 inches down to the left... then my brights quit again so i took it in and all the pins and bushings fell out and broke... and all the holes are pretty damn mangled, some are twice there size... its a terrible sight.... but for a 3rd gen its worth it

Look for a good used one, I picked up a tilt column with key and vats module for 125bucks....I needed it quickly...have since come across the same thing anywhere from 50-100.
