multi grade oil

i've done a search but didn't find anything. Does anyone know at what temps a multi grade oil switches grades? In other words, when (at when temp) does a 10w30 oil act like a 10 weight and when does it act like a 30 weight? thanks!

It doesn't work quite that way. The oil is tested at low temp and assigned a "W" viscosity, and tested at high temp for the no-letter viscosity.

That's all there is to it.

Oh, the "W" stands for "winter", not "weight". A straight 30 weight is "SAE-30", not "30W". And, 20W-20 is actually a multi-viscosity oil.
