Tapping Roller Lifter???
Tapping Roller Lifter???
Ok quick run down on a long story. I installed 1.6 roller tip rockers on my 89 and everything was fine for like 2 weeks then a tap 1 day as I got to work. pulled the covers and 1 of the rocker nuts backed off, reset it and went. (This has been a problem on multiple rocker arms that I have already solved.)
Anyway at some point I killed 1 of the lifters going in and out of the valve covers and constantly re-running the valves. Or so I thought so I bought a full set of cheap'os at autozone and replaced all of them. Still had a slight tick from 1 lifter, tried reseting it multiple times. always flowed plenty of oil and would seem to pump up fine then loose pressure or something and start to tick, quick turn and it would stop then start again.
Bought another better quality lifter as this thing keeps getting louder and pulled the whole deal again and replaced just the suspect.
Now the lifter doesnt flow **** for oil, ticks like crazy and is really pissing me off with all the time it takes me to get in and out of that TPI system.
Oh this isnt my daily car anymore, at the start it was. its my toy now and you know how I hate to not be able to play with my toys.
any thoughts on the problem? I'm thinking something is clogging the oiling system to that particular lifter and making my life hell.
agree or disagree?

Welcome.
I think you hid the tappet right on the head, or the head right on the tappet..... whatever.
You probably have something blocking the oil passage going to that lifter. Either that or one next to it which is not allowing oil to flow.
BTW, are you sure it's not a rocker arm stud pulling out?

I'm not new just changed my name to my new plates here in NC. gotta rock'm.
I'm pretty sure its not the rocker stud but can always double and triple check. At this point though that stud would be rolling around in there like crazy with a whole rocker still attached. I dont even drive it right now it sounds *** awfull.
I may wait until I pull this sucker apart as I had planned a head and cam change anyway and see whats going on in there. unless someone can think of a way to fix this badboy without going past the intake again. I'm a pro at it at this point but that dang tpi is still a bear to pull and re-install over and over. I can't get much faster at it and do it right.
Ideas? I was thinkin of trying to at least pull the lifters and spin the pump a bit to see if it would loosen. My luck it would just move to a new spot though.
