smog pump
Well, I looked on the tech article, but that was for a fuel injected car, and I showed the diagram to my dad, and he said I have a different belt routing for my carburated 305. I was just wondering if any of you have taken your smog pumps off on your carburated cars and how do you do it?

Mine is off for the time being, but needs to go back on for emissions testing next month.
The bracket unbolts from the block. The belt is dedicated to the pump. There are a couple of vacuum lines going to the diverter valve (which I also don't have on right now), they need to be plugged. On the manifolds (headers, in my case), remove the check valve & hoses, and put a brass pipe cap on the fitting where the check valve went. Or, remove the pipes from the manifolds and plug them there.
The only benefit to all this is to clean up the engine compartment a little bit. The pump has zero effect on performance.

Well, they quite testing in MN so I removed all my smog stuff (84 Z28 L69) and stored it all away because you never know. I just removed everything including the diverter valve. Just unplug the wiring and tuck them away from the hot exhaust. I pluged the fresh air pipe that is on the converter and headers. I put a block off plate on the int. where the EGR goes. I removed the chercol canister (used the space for a vacuum can for the power brakes) and rerouted the hoses. Oh, and this will not turn the check engine lite on. At least not on my 84.
