Fixed stutter, but still low idle

We just got a 85 IROC and when we got it it had a hesitation/stutter every now and then. I changed the plugs, all looked good except #7 which was oil fouled, the rest looked good but some looked like they were running rich, and you can smell the fuel coming out of the exhaust sometimes not so much anymore after the plug change but its definetly still rich.

But the main problem with the car would be the low idle. It is idling around 500 in gear around 750 in park/nuetral. The car seems to do fine with it though doesnt stall, doesnt run weird or anything, but I just want it to idle like it should. Any ideas?

Sounds about normal if it's a TPI car. They idled them down real low. Not much you can do about it since the ECM controls the idle speed.

On a carbureted car the idle speed screw is on the driver's side of the carb, pointing forward, near the throttle arm. Has a hex head to it and either a regular screwdriver slot or torx head on it. A small change (1/4 turn) should move the idle about 200 RPMs.

yeah its TPI. Thats wierd though cuz my 88 350 IROC ran about 750 in gear and about 1000 in park, and my current 88 Convertible runs the same.

750 in P or N is about right for almost any Chevy V8... they all idle about like that. My carb'd 350 idles around 750rpm, and its perfectly happy there.
