steel fuel lines, replacment?
Hey guys, it looks like the guy that had my car before me sliced and diced the fule lines, and tried to repair them with rubber hosing. Im pretty worried about the fuel wearing its way through the weak @ss rubber so id like to replace em all from the tank to the fuel rails, is this something you think i can do, or should leave it to a pro?

You can order them new from the dealer, there are seven total, from tank to fuel rail, including pressure and return, and both flex lines (if you have TPI) and the most expensive one is $25.
Or you can get a used one, like I did when I converted my car to TPI. Spent $20 for all seven fuel lines.
You can't really repair them yourself, because you won't be able to flare the ends. It is a special flare called an "O-ring flare" and you won't be able to do it.

Aaron,
GMT is right - you'll never be able to recoup the cost of the dies required to create a collar flare for the 'O' ring fittings. Either replace the set with steel, or look closely at the rubber lines.
Some cars have rubber end-to-end, and some of the "weak-@ss" rubber hoses have a burst pressure of 16,000 PSI, or about fifteen times that of the steel they replace. As long as the lines are routed away from heat sources, they should actually last longer than the steel lines. On the other hand, if the replacemetn hoses are plain 50 PSI fuel/vapor hose, you might want to consider changing them.
Another possibility is to couple the steel standpipes at the ends to a replacement steel line using stainless hydraulic compression connectors. These are generally good for 5,000 PSI working pressure, and as long as the steel lines are clean, you'll get a leakproof seal. Just another option.
