Did I do the right thing?
I just got done pulling the high pressure spring that came in my high volume pump with the "stock" spring that they also supplied. I know that I'm gonna get a lot of flack for getting a HV pump, so try and keep the "Get a Melling M55 pump with a Mr Gasket #26 spring" comment to a minimun please since I already have the HV pump installed. If I would have done more searches before I ordered, I probably would have gotten the standard flow pump. Anway, if it does help, I'm running a 6 qt pan if that helps counter any guys ready to say "it's gonna suck your pan dry at high rpms". So as you can see....I've done my searches (after the fact) but didn't find anything to keep me from taking the high pressure spring out. Should I have left the HP spring in there instead?

yea, ya did the right thing.
as far as the pan dry thing....more pan volume wont fix that... its a drainback issue usually... that just means that instead of 5 quarts at the top of the engine, theres 7.

that's a rather rare thing to happen even with high volume high pressure pumps. if you were concerned about it you could have also opened up the oil returns. odd place to do a port job, but it does work.
