TPI 305 running rich & MAF question?
Hello all,
I have an 89 IROC 305 TPI. It recently failed smog because the HC was too high. I replaced the plugs and the O2 sensor in the hopes of cleaning up the fumes. I also added a can of injector cleaner and "pass the smog" cleaner. As per the instructions I've run the tank to nearly empty, and am now about to take it in for a pre-test. Yesterday I hooked up my ALDL cable and played with the WinADL application to see if my numbers were out of whack.
While the ALDL was hooked up and with the car idling, about 10 minutes into, it the car started to spew out smoke and smelled very rich. The RPM's were at around 925, but they generally are around 750 (it's a 5 speed). In any case, any ideal what would cause this? Is the ALDL initiating tests, or could (albiet remotely) the fuel additive be at the bottom of the nearly empty tank and enriching the fuel too much?
Lastly, the screen has been removed from the MAF. Could this have an effect?
