How can I test out my Fuel Level Sending Unit?

ok heres the problem....my fuel level sending unit went out on my car and I just bought a used one from third gen resource and I would like to test the sending unit out before I go to the trouble of putting it in and then finding out it does'nt work.

So Does anybody know how to test one of these out?

Get a good voltmeter that can test resistance. Locate the signal wire from the sender, set your voltmeter to test resistance, attach the positive lead to the signal wire, and ground the negative lead to the sending unit, then move the sender arm. If it's good, the resistance on the voltmeter should change as you move the arm. Kind of hard to explain without a pic, but I hope you get the idea.
