Dumb question
Dumb question
Does my 85 LG4 have an O2 sensor ?
If it Does, Could removeing my smog pump belt have damaged it In some way wich would lead to problems in Mixture settings ?
I know On My dads truck, he started to burn up a valve and the Oxidation of it Left debris on the sensor, wich In Turn gave a Improper Rich Reading, So his computer leaned out the Mixture and he proceeded to burn Up the rest of his Valves.
This just occured to me as this car has ran perforect for 147k and all the sudden I pulled the AIR pump belt cause It was being gay, and this **** started

Yes it does have one. I doubt the belt being off the A.I.R. pump would cause any problems, except that living in CA. you'll prolly fail emissions. We don't have that yet in central Ohio. I left my A.I.R. belt off, and have noticed no problems.
One small thing it may affect is how fast the ECM goes into closed loop. When in open loop, the air is injected into the manifolds and helps to heat up the O2 sensor, then after it goes into closed loop, it diverts the air to the catalytic converter so that what it reads is what comes out of the engine, un-tampered with.
What kind of problems are you having?

Working on:
'84 Z28 LG4 305
Added dual elec fans.
145 MPH IROC Speedo
Building 430 HP 350
using primarily GMPP parts.
Block is in shop!
Awaiting results from all 8 ASE tests.
Starting to look like the Kicker poster child!

Its prolly a bad Tps, I just dont feel like tearing into My Carb. Ive descried it here before and got Some Good Info ad have pretty much narrowed it Down, I was just Sorta Curios as to Why It happend 1k after i bought the car
On a side Note, If I slap a Mech Quadrajet On there And just let the TCS and MC plugs dangle, Is My ECM gonna Deal ?
that would just be till I get Down to rebuilding the Carb, well before my next emissions check.

Bort,
If you disconnect the TPS and MC solenoid, you'll be staring at the "yellow lamp of doom" for mailes and miles. These things aren't that difficult, and the TPS can be adjusted without removing the carb:
An oxygen sensor can last almost 80,000 miles before the signal starts to degrade significantly. Bosch recommends changing at 30,000 miles as a routine maintenance item. What is odd, though, is that Porsche recommends changing the Bosch O.E.M. sensor at 60,000 miles. Same sensor, different company, 10,000 miles after the emissions warranty period expires - strange, isn't it? Since GM started sourcing their sensors internally and away from Bosch exclusively, they recommend an emissions check at the 50,000 mile service. The techs will probably suggest a new sensor at that point. (?) In either case, less than $20.00 for a new sensor will probably save you that much in fuel in the first six months.

Thnx alot vader
Sounds like A Plan, as My car is approaching 150k and has never been touched. The previous owner Only changed the Oil On scedule
I Would bet its on the original O2 sensor.
How Do I adjust the Tps ? I would imaigne it Needs replacing More than Just an adjustment However.
TIA
