Fuel pressure w/ speed demon 750 dp

Well, I have been been buying some goodies the last couple of days. I am getting the carb mentioned above, and also ordered a carter fuel pump. I was thinking that the pump was 7psi, but after I ordered I realized it was 8. Will this be to high? If so I have a regulator, but will it hurt a mechanical pump to regulate it down? The only carb I really have experience w/ is my cc quadrajet so I dont really know. I put a t56 in and so I really wanted a dp carb. What should I do w/ the fp. Do I need to order a different pump or can I make this work? I have run a best of 9.410 in the 1/8 mile, but it feels like I am running out of fuel up high w/ my current pump(still using quad by the way). I also have a set of sportsman II's that I have started porting and will finnish soon if I could get enough free time.

Thanks

Ben

"The fuel pressure should be between 6 and 8 psi. Most carburetors should be set to operate at 6 psi."

A regulator won't hurt the mechanical pump operation at all, assuming the reg itself can handle the fuel flow.

Well, I dont know what brand it is, but I believe that the regulator I have is pretty cheap. I guess I can try it and see if it works. Are you just saying that it may not be able to flow enough fuel or what?

If the reg flow passages are small, it may not flow what the carb needs even when wide open.

I'd try the carb & pump by themselves first. The BG info seems to support 8 psi.

Sounds like a plan. When I get this stuff on, I will be back for some tuning advice I am sure.
