Hey guys, I'm getting a little frustrated in wanting to advance my timing on my '83 T/A crossfire 305... I picked up a distributer (crow's foot) wrench today to get it done with, but because of the size of the crossfire TBI plate there's no room to spin the wrench... ! I also can't seem to find my timing tab that should be over the damper, so I bought a new crome tab that bolts onto two timing cover bolts, but there isn't enough room between the cover and the water pump to get it in there! Grrr! What am I doing wrong? Somebody please help me! Also, anyone know where I can get my correct fuel filter for the car? It's a Deutshe(sp?) part # FF503 which has been discontinued (grrr) so I called my local Pontiac dealer and they said the AC-Delco part has also been discontinued with no further info!!! Thanx guys!

 

On the 87 later 305 engines the timing tab is welded onto the timing chain cover right under the water pump at the 12 o'clock position of the balancer. Maybe it's there.

 

Nope, not there, I even picked up an aftermarket chrome tab that would bolt up in that position and it wouldn't fit between the cover and the water pump...
