casting numbers
hey guys, long time no post for me
well been flip floppin on keepin my bird or not, and since no one will buy it, im keepin it
anywho i was just curious about the casting numbers i found on this engine i bought from a hick a year ago, 350 from a 75 chevelle laguna, who said it made 385 horse and all he could tell me was it was bored over and his bro rebuilt it, well ive gotten smarter since then and was curious bout these casting numbers and if these actually are good heads....
354484 and under that was J 31 75 this was on the drivers side head and the number on the passenger side head was the same cept i think it said J 31 70, there was alot of gunk and hard to make out even after cleaning it off a little
im only curious cause im raisin the
flag and my friend thinks this 350 actually makes 385 horse, with the stamped steel rockers, stock intake, stock q-jet..... and lookin like the stock heads. if any work was done on them it was chitty cause the holes between where the pushrods come out are all chipped and cracked and stuff. sorry for the rant

Car: yy wife, crazy.
Engine: 350, Vortecs, 650DP
Transmission: TH-350
Axle/Gears: 8.5", 3.42
Stock, unported, 305 heads with a "mild" cam, more than likely not.
Many a magazine has put Vortec heads, Comp Cams SE268 cam (not mild at all), headers, Edelbrock RPM Air Gap intake, and a Holley 750 VS carb with 1-5/8" headers and made near, if not slightly more than 400 (magazine inflated) HP.
That's far from stock 305 heads, stock intake, and stock Q-jet.
Realistically, you may be putting out up to 250 HP, but that would be based on what kind of "mild" cam is in the car.
