Crate Engine ??'s
Crate Engine ??'s
OK here's the scoop, my factory short block finally shot craps and I'm in search for a partial crate engine. I have Canfield Alum. heads, mini-ram, DFI, etc etc..and am looking for websites or phone #'s for reputable places I may want to look into. I'm thinking either 383 or 406, but so far I'm leaning towards a GMPP ZZ4. Car Craft did a ZZ4 buildup in the Jan 2003 issue and I was pretty damn impressed. They opted for the Comp Cam's XR280R, topped it with AFR'S, a Vic Jr., and a Demon and made 523 HP @ 6600 and 454 TQ @ 5200. I'm sure with my top-end, I can get pretty close to those numbers. I'm trying to stay around $2500 for the partial short block, so please keep that in mind when posting. Thanks in advance.

GM sells a partial engine that is a 383. P/n 12498332. It uses the same block as the ZZ4 but has different crank. It has a 4.00 inch bore and 3.80 inch stroke. It comes with oil pan, flexplate, oil pump, timing cover and all the gaskets for them. Check out www.gmpartsdirect.com for pricing.
I couldn't find that part # at the website you posted, but I was able to find it at Scroggins-Dickey for $3195. Thanks for your reply GASGZLR. I'm just debating on whether it's worth $1200 more than the ZZ4. Anyone else?
