headlight problem

ok my GTA just started doing this and so far i think it's a worn gear. it has to deal with the driver's side headlight. whenever i turn the lights on or off, the passenger side light works fine, but the driver's side is always the last one up and the last one down. it hesitates going up and down. i observed how the motor moved when i had the hood up and i saw that the driver's side motor spins more excessivly than the passenger side (when the passenger side light is up the motor stops spinning immediately, but the driver's side keeps on spinning like 5 seconds more after the light is up.) so yeah my instincts tell me it's the gear in the motor. what do you guys think? also, i was wondering if the headlight motors in the GTAs and firebirds of the 80s were the same as the ones the corvettes of the same year used? i'm asking because i know in the corvette parts mags they sell brass gears for the motors and they don't break down as easy and i was eyeing those for my motors.
