HElP! I caught on fire!!!!!
My 87 formula caught fire, and burnt the harness to a crisp on the passenger side. My car has the lg4 305 with the q-jet. I bought a harness off an 88 305 tbi car, it came with the prom and ecm. Will the new harness work as is? or do i need to convert to TBI? I already have an awesome cold air intake which only works on the carb, it makes the hood bulge functional and I luv it, i can switch to tbi if i gotta but would rather not. I am mechanically inclined but have never had to work on my baby beyond the basics, will i have to pull the motor to get the old harness off? it runs thru the firewall behind the heater core and on the firewall side it is crispy, its a mess! i can't get the freakin heater core out! to check the dash side of the harness, does anybody know what is under there exactly? and just how hard this is gonna be? Other than the burned up harness and a small dent in the door my formula is near mint, she is a florida car her whole life untill 3 years ago, and i have never had a problem tilll now. But, around here nobody knows f-bodies and everyone tells me just to sell it or part it out because they are not worth much blah blah blah, well its worth a lot to me and i do not want to let 'er go over an electrical problem!!!!! thanks alot for looking, and any advice is greatly apreciated...

to use the tbi harness, youd need to convert to tbi, which wouldnt be too terribly hard, and the tbi accepts any air cleaners tha would fit on the cc q-jet. Your only problem is that you dont have all the sensors, tbi fuel pump, tbi specific linkages, and, of coarse, the tbi itself. Youd have to get a complete setup if you wanted to use the tbi. Your best bet would be just to get the wire harness for the lg4 cars and replace the wire harness. As for the harness location, if its like my car, the harness enters in from behind the fender. If you take off the plastic kick panel on the passenger side, youll see it. Dont sell it cheap or dump it. Youll only be screwing yourself over. Its so easy for someone just to swap out the lg4 for something else and have themselves a nice car at your expence.
