Annoying ticking noise
Alright guys, i have read other posts on ticking noises coming from the engine. Mine is on an LO3 with 133,000+ miles on the clock. When accelerating the tick is much more noticeable now than it ever has been before. A couple of months ago it only did it when the engine was cold and then when i warmed up it quit. Now it does it all the time no matter the engine temp. But this is kinda weird, if the engine is cold and i let it warm up by ideling, the tick is not nearly as loud. I heard it could be an exhaust leak, lifters, etc. Which does it sound like and if it one of those or something else, is it something i should get fixed? The car does burn oil because the valve seals are bad. Could that have an affect on it? Please respond...thanks.

chances are you got a rust-hole in the manifold/somewhere in the exhaust but a lifter tick could be it also. valve tick perhaps too. Try getting a long screw driver and hold it over the valve covers, listen/feel for clicks or use a stethascope (spelling?) to hear the clicks. A crack/hole may be visible on your manifolds, look over your manifolds closey/get underneath and look for smoke or try to pin-point the sound for your exahaust(can usually hear it clearly when underneath) Also the do-nut/exhaust gaskets where your manifolds meet your y-pipe or whatever u have go bad, i had a header tick, got some donut gaskets, tighten the bolts back up n no problems anymore..
noway of telling unles u have someone look for it.
