Why do I keep eating up ignition rotors?

I have a 305 tpi and over the summer I put on an accel cap/rotor kit and a accell coil it worked great until a month ago I was driving and the car just died on me so turns out the rotor was bad it wasn't scorched or anything so i replaced it and yesterday the same thing happened rotor looked fine but replaced it and car started right up. So I put the original coil and a new cap on and the car is running like crap now it's surging and idling like crap too. I'm totally stumped. Does anybody have any ideas? I need all the help I can get.

Take a close look at your other ignition components for problems. They can cause premature wear on the cap and rotor. In my case the magnetic pole piece and pickup coil in the distributor were so corroded it was a real testament to the HEI and Jacobs box that the car ran at all.

Nellies, I would first suggest you inspect your wires (including checking resistance). I would then look to all the distributor components. In particular inspect your carbon brush and the ground strap located under the coil.
