What is this Damn Whining Noise
K, guys im sorta in a panic here. I jsut got this 89 iroc about 2 months ago there is this whine that comes from the car. Ill explain. When the car is nice and cold or even after its been running a while the noise is not there. But if it heats up or i get into it it develops. If i push the gas down and let off there is a whine from the car. The noise becomes louder if im at higher rpms and let off. If im in park however, and rev up the car there is no noise at all. THe trans only has about 8k on it with a 2600 stall and has a heavy duty trans cooler on there for the last 2k miles. Any ideas? Please Guys im panicing and dont want to go to aamco and get charged 30 bucks to get it looked at. Thanks!
jsut to add there is no noise in park or neutral or even if the car is at a complete stop, and u can barely hear the whine until u get higher up in the rpm range and let off the gas. Please say it aint the trans:hail:
u guys think...It doesnt really sound like its coming from the back though. It sounds more like its under the drivers seat. Anyone know any trans shops around joliet or orland park, il that will do a diagonistic for free? Or any other ideas? Could it be the rear end? It odes thumb in D if i come to a stop

well since u have that shift kit its kind of hard to pin point but it "could" be one of the rings that compress the clutches in the tranny is sticking n not let the fliud move the piston right.
I don't know, nothing I don't think you would just look at and see with the symptons u gve.
Take it to a tranny shop and be prepared for a labor charge of taking it out n putting it in n looking at it.

IT sounds like a typical rear-end noise. It could possiby be low on power steering fluid but I doubt it. The high stall converter really puts strain on rear end. I'd check th e rear diff fluid possibly even change it. generally if your in park or neutral the car is not in motion therefore the rear end is not moving. but when you do get on it and engine brake it makes the noise. when you let off the gas, the ring gear loads the pinion gear, while when you accelerate the pinion gear loads the ring gear. its opposite if your going reverse of course. thats a dead indication the gears are not adjusted properly, or they were jarred loose by the converter. those rearends are so damn weak!!!!
How long has this noise been happening? is it getting worse? what size tires do you run, is it pozi? how often do you harp on it, what type of power do you think its making? my guess you spazzed the rear, and thats a costly mistake.
