lopey cam sound in a fuel injection?

ok, i have a question about making your car have the nice powerful sound of an old lopey muscle car. Is it possible on a TPI engine? (i'm asking this because i think its possible, while my friend who has a 73 monte carlo says that my car cannot because its a TPI) i also was wondering that if i add a cam, what kind of lift and duration do i need to make my 305 sound like that? (if its possible that is.) I'm sorry if this sounds dumb, but i'm fairly new to building up and engine.

MORE TO COME: Any suggestions on what to do next? I really want to try and make the 305 run 13s (i've mostly been doing basic repair to the car, but now most of its done i have money to mod!)e-mail me@ abraham_39@hotmail.com

The key to the lopy sound is usually in the lobe separation. A lobe sep of 112 will give a slight lopy sound. 110 and 108 is probably what your looking for. However, I wouldnt go below 112 on a TPI.

so, if i got a cam with duration around 112 (and matching heads) would i need to get a custom chip burned or, could i get by with a chip from an aftermarket company like performance resource?

I have no experience with their chips, but I'll have to say you will need a custom chip. Reason being is that you have speed density. Ask them if they will work with you on something. Or you can buy the software for a little over $200 and get way better results.

You should look into other things first. heads and cam will improve power but then your exhaust manifold and intake will become the restriction.

Pick up an SLP stainless steel catback, SLP 1 5/8th headers (group purchase going on now), port your plenum, get a crane afpr. Depending on the heads/cam you get you may need a new intake manifold. Definitely a custom chip. Some gears 3:55s or 3:73s, Drag Radials, bump your timing to 10*BTDC.

Ok, so, after i get the cam, my headers would be a restriction? i already have the edelbrock TES, but i haven't put them on, because i can't decide on a cat-back&cat to match them up with. I was thinking of the Catco 3' cat with an areochamber catback, but if i go into the group purchase, can i just purchase the cat back and not the headers? also, i was wondering if the TES are considered to be ok for exhaust? Or, did i make a bad choice for headers?

Its my opinion the SLP headers are better, but since you already bought the Edelbrock headers, use them. If you want the lumpy cam sound, save your money and do everything at once. Buy a 350 roller block, heads, cam, intake manifold, etc, and drop them into your car when you're ready. You can get little stuff now, like exhaust, torque converter, suspension mods, gears, etc, that will transfer over to the new engine.
