Anyone using magnetic oil devices on oil filter?
Anyone using magnetic oil devices on oil filter?
Another oil related question.
I am thinking about getting a magnetic device for my oil filter (like www.magnaforc.com or www.thebeartrap.com)
It makes sense to me that by trapping the metallic particles in the oil, the engine life would be greatly extended. Also, would a magnetic oil plug be better?
Any testimonials would be appreciated. I have 150000 on great running 305 and want it to last another 150000!
Thanks for your thoughts.

your links don't work. i've glued magnets in the lifter valley before to catch debris. never used magnetic drain plugs. wouldn't hurt anything.

I futzed with the links yesterday, they should be:

I agree w/Ed, it can't hurt anything. Heck, I have an oil filter "cooling collar", just because it'll dress up the filter. If it somehow works, it can't hurt! (I've yet to put it on, tho, keep forgetting!)

Using a magnetic oilpan drain plug is a great idea also. It catches the slop before it gets pulled thru the oil pump, also lets you get an idea how much metal your engine has sloughed off every time you change the oil.
They're available at Pep Boys, etc.
