connector found

I have been having some problems with a bad vibration in my 305 tpi around 1600 -2000 rpms. It seemed to start right after my transmission gave out and i over-revved the engine, which is not hard to do on a stock 305. i have not torn into the engine yet to look at valve springs or lifters or rockers, any suggestiions on where to start, it does it whether sitting still in park or rolling down the road. During my searching around the engine looking for a broken wire or a disconnected plug, I found a connector disconnected on the backside of the engine by the distributor but i dont know what is goes too, there is nothing that i can see that is unplugged, the connector has one black wire and on orange/black wire. Anyone know??
