What is this AC sound?
Hi. I wondered if anyone else has had a similar problem...I'm not sure what it is.
My '86 Firebird makes a moaning/dull grinding sound after warming up and while idling or at low speeds. This occurs most prominently while the AC is on. The sound lessens but does not stop when the AC is turned off.
The sound is heard well inside the car, but is not very obvious when listening under the hood. It's possibly coming from under the hood just in front of the passenger.
Any ideas what this is?
Thank you so much, my thirdgen friends.

check to see if it's comming from the ac compressor... my iroc when i first got it made a weird ticking noise inside the engine bay... when i popped the hood and listened carefully, i noticed it was comming from the ac compressor... clutch in the compressor was going bad... got it replaced for free
i only noticed it while i was on idle, never noticed it while i was driving... maybe because my exhaust was louder than the ticking lol

Update
Took the belt off the compressor and drove the car around a bit. The sound still happens, but...
If the sound is happening while parked and I turn my wheels slightly left or right, I can hear a low, hissing sound.
Is this a power steering issue now?

Ok. This is kinda getting off-topic because I'm troubleshooting different parts for the source of this noise.
Could it be the flywheel?
