Silly question, but...
Silly question, but...
This may seem like a silly question, but how the hell am I going to transport my long block 350?? I mean, it's on a stand, but if I throw it in the back of a uhaul van or something...
!?!?
I don't want it rollin' around back there smashing around!

sit it in a old tire. not perfect but it's a good way to haul an engine or block around.

I've been trying to get ahold of one of the pallets that crate motors and remanned motors come into our shop on. So far we have needed them all for the cores.
I wish I would've remembered the tire thing when hauling my 1970 350 home! Oh well.

Working on:
'84 Z28 LG4 305
Added dual elec fans.
145 MPH IROC Speedo
Building 430 HP 350
using primarily GMPP parts.
Block is in shop!
Awaiting results from all 8 ASE tests.
Starting to look like the Kicker poster child!

The ol' tire trick works pretty well for a core or used engine. I've hauled a few finished engines out of the garage, and a "stand" made of 2x12 lumber works well unless you have a really deep oil pan. Nail up a box of 2x12s in a pattern like this:
Space the inner two crossmembers so that the oil pan flanges sit down into the opening. The engine will basically be suported by the bottom of the block. It may be necessary to notch one of the boards to clear the oil dipstick tube, and there should be cuts for the flywheel or flexplate to fit into. This will locate the engine fore and aft. Make the box a little longer than necessary, and the outriggers wide enough to keep the engine stable. If you are going a long distance or shipping the engine, put a couple more 2x12s at the extreme outer ends of the outriggers, screw in eye bolts for straps, and strap over the engine onto the "pallet". You can even use cheap plywood to enclose the pallet to deter pilferage.
