Dodge Shadow Question! For a friend!
He doesnt know anything about cars. He has a 92-94 dodge shadow 2dr with a 4 banger in it and it wont start.
It turns over very well, but doesnt start. I checked all the spark plugs, and the dist. connectors, they all look ok.
What else could be wrong? How do you check for system codes on those things?
Thanks for the help,
Daniel

I'm not familiar with the Dodge, but the troubleshooting is the same. If it's getting spark, then it must not be getting fuel. I would bet the fuel pump is dead. If the pump was working, but the fuel injector was clogged, it would still run. It would run like S**T but it'd still run.
I'm not sure what kind of tools you may have but flipping through a Haynes or some kind of repair book at the local AutoZone or library would help you troubleshoot a possible fuel pump problem.
An easy way to check for spark is to remove one spark plug, reconnect the plug wire and lay the plug on the block or bare metal place under the hood. Crank the engine and see if the plug is sparking or not. A spark tester would be better but that is one way to check it if you don't have one.

Give it a good tune-up and check the bloody oil- really, no kidding! And make sure there is spark. My wife's sister has had three and it's either low on oil or the ignition wire cores (carbon) have been taost - looked great, junk inside.. They foul up quickly and the ignition system is anemic. In both these cases it won't start.

well, those 2.2/2.5s are notorious for blowing pick up coils. some have one lead, others have two, but either way they are flimsy. the good news is, they are easy as hell to replace. just pull the cap/rotor. its held in by two screws underneath rotor(big plastic disc) unplug the connector and shes out., change that, and plugs, and check the wires if they are the plug ino cap kind
good luck

Does it crank faster than it should? These things have a timing belt that could have gone. Luckily, it's not an inteference motor (Doesn't bend valves when the belt breaks). The belt is really easy to replace, too. The top part of the timing belt cover is really easy to remove (2 or 3 bolts, I can't remember) and you'll probably know right away if the belt is bad. Make sure the cam turns while cranking the engine.
Check the spark, and if you have it, look to see if fuel is spraying from the injector. If no fuel, listen for the pump to run. The injector could have gone, the computer, many things! Let us know what you find, and maybe we can narrow it down. I have worked on a bunch of these, so I like to think I can help you out!
Good luck!
