Mods that i can convince my parents to help pay for :)

So they are interested in things like, saftey (ahah) and fuel economy. Im currently trying to convince them that they need to help me buy exhaust and headers because it increases fuel economy... Anything else that will increase HP aswell as fuel economy? Wires, ignition... I heard you can plate the combustion chambers with platinum ?!?!? is this true? I heard only 75% of fuel combusts in the engine

Well, if your folks are that gullible to thnk you're modding your car for economy and safety...get about 10g's out of them, and tell'em you're gooing to redo the suspension for "superior handling characteristics in adverse weather conditions" and install airbags all the way around.

Then take to a speedshop and have'em spend the $$...tape a few baggies to the steering wheel and doors...that'll be the 4way airbag system :>)

GTA,

Something to remember is that economy and efficiency are the same thing. An efficient engine makes the most power on the least amount of fuel. (Sound familiar?)

If you only produce the necessary level of power to move the vehicle with an efficient engine, you'll get better economy and generally fewer emissions. I have a 4,400 pound land yacht that can get 27 MPG at 60MPH with the old 350. Conversely, it uses a lot of fuel when it cruises at 140+.

I see a lot of "efficient/economy" cars that are getting 20 MPG with a four cylinder that should be getting 35 or better - spewing black smoke and running on three cylinders with three red lights on the dash staring at the oblivious driver. These are the cars Al Gore wants us all to drive, to "protect" the environment that he invented. And they want to penalize large engines for emissions and fuel economy reasons? WTF!?

At any rate, some realistic modifications that would help both performance and efficiency are:

1. Low-restriction air filter, like a K&N or such;

2. Cleaned/flow-matched injectors (not a mod, but a maintenance item). The idea is while it's apart, you can port the plenum and match the runners and intake ports for greater efficiency/less intake restriction. The fresh injectors can really wake up the engine as well;

3. AFPR to adjust fuel pressure to optimum (not necessarily higher);

4. Low-restriction exhaust. This can include a high-flow cat converter and muffler, which will actually help with emissions, too, since old cats don't really have nine lives;

5. High-energy ignition system. More complete combustion is a win/win/win situation. Economy, power, and emissions are all improved if done correctly.

I'm sure there are a lot of other possibilities, but a Christmas gift list can only be so long.

Oooh, I hate to bring out the good old yardstick here, but I'm gonna have to slap Vaders hand for making a major booboo. Economics and efficiency are COMPLETELY diferent things. Not a car thing, just something you dont wanna say around a business/economics major!

Just so you guys know, Im only joking around.

While I agree with the whole saving/earning money thing (cause that's what I had to do) a nice racing harness and roll cage for Christmas sure would increase safety, right?

That's O.K. I've had nuns slap my fingers with yardsticks since LBJ was in office. I'm used to it. Pardon my fox paws (and, faux pas), but I meant to say "fuel efficiency" where I inadvertently said "economy".

So "Pardon me, while I burst into flames..."

Get an aluminum intake. That, with a set of headers is said to increase fuel economy as well as performance

6 with a deuce,

We NEVER EVER fry our pistons here - we bake them and make them into little shrapnel-throwing projectiles.

You know, lean it out with nitrous until the piston domes are white-hot, then advance the timing 10 degrees and watch the fireworks !!

I guess that would constitute an "untimely" end to the motor. Also, probable grounds for banishing the owner to KIA land forever.

NNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO !!!

I just rented a Kia in Florida - when I brought it back the rental car guy asked, politely, how was it ?

I replied, politely, "it was a sack of schizz". "A sluggard". "Wouldn't fall from a tree in a hurricane".

$10 off. He said everyone says that - and worse.
