No, you cant use LS1 or LT1 heads on any regular small block chevy engine. The LT1 and LS1 are special engines requiring their own heads and intakes.

As Kevin said, but even less likely than with the LS1 heads...with symeterical port layouts to boot.

If you have NO EMISSIONS to worry about and want to make BIG HP, look at some 18* heads. Will have to play with the valve train geometry, but massive HP potential. Not very good for the street, but excellent for the strip.

But, if you are intended this for a 305, I think you should consider some Aluminum L98 heads from the Corvette and have them ported. Those heads can be worked to make great power for a 305 yet be quite nice for the street.

With a 305, you really have limited selection for heads due to the small bores of the 305. Most 2.02/1.60 heads that work with the L98 will not work with the 305 as the larger valves either won't clear the bores or have severely limited lift.

Don't go with the L98 heads on your 305. Bad idea. Even though they do have larger valves the loss of compression is horirble and if you run a wild cam the valves will slam into the block deck. Pick up a set of stock LB9 heads and modify them for a good start.

Don't start your mods on the heads though, especially if you're new to cars. Take it slow and LEARN about cars not just how to drive to an exhaust shop for them to put on a cat-back (although not a bad place to start). Once you learn the phsyics, laws, and principles of automotive technology you'll have a much easier time selecting your modifications.

What! The true aluminum L98 heads (not the iron B2L, which is the F-body 350) had 58cc chambers, plus you can run safetly .520" lift. Why .520" lift? I checked some 350 heads on my 305 to see what was the max lift and the cams I was considering where under .520 lift (using 1.6 ratio). No foreseeable problems. I was not contemplating using 350 heads (64cc), but rather the use of 1.94/1.50 valves.

World Products offers a nice set of S/R heads with 58cc chambers made especially for the 305 engines.

Pat,

The last flow test I read has those particular World Products heads flowing 5 cfm LESS than stocker Chevy smog heads on the exhaust side - not too cool.

I think TFS has a good thing going with their new 23* heads - $800, run 'em out of the box for 60 HP - 90HP increase with cam - unfortunately, 2.02/1.6 valves will not work in a 305.

Many guys have had good experiences with World heads - but porting is an absolute MUST. They are cast with plenty of material.

The 58cc aluminum Corvette head will not drop compression, and will run cooler than cast iron. Pocket porting on the exhaust side with 1.6 rockers and a split pattern cam favoring the exhaust side should add 40-50 HP.

Shop for them at swap meets and at local salvage yards - look for an '87-'91 Vette.

If $350 won't buy 'em, pro-port the stockers and use 1.94/1.50 valves.
