KNOCK on hard acceleration/ shifting

Its only when I give the throttle a good punch; I get a horrable single knock, almost like there was something in the trunk (if we had one) that bangs. If I keep on it it will do it at hard shifts. It sounds like its under the car, but the exhaust is secure and the drivetrain has been inspected. Any ideas?

Have you looked at the tranny mount. I had a similar problem and it ended up being a $6 tranny mount.

If it ends up being the tranny mount, go with a poly mount. You can pick 'em up at just about any auto parts store, and they seem to last longer than the stock rubber ones. On my '87 350 IROC, I even went with a solid mount. There really isn't all that much vibration from the tranny to worry about. Good luck. - John

I had the same problem with my 91 Firebird. I slid under the rear to check the bushings and I found that half the bolts on the rear suspension were loose. This gave a lot of room for play, and for banging against each other. After I torqued them all up, it stopped the noise and it felt like I was driving a better car.

Sounds like a tranny mount. I've had my car one and a half years and i've already had to replace it twice

my vote goes for that too... my 83 did it.. just to see what the broken mount is doing.. prop the hood up(have car on street), stand outside and watch the engine as someone taps the gas hard... the engine will lurch forward and down a good solid 2 inches. NOT good.
