I was wondering if anybody is running Dart Iron Eagle S/S heads they have a 1.94 intake and 1.5 exhaust which would fit a 305. They got 72 cc chambers and all together are 165 cc. Made out of Iron Alloy so they weigh 48lbs. Not sure if they are the 87 and up center bolt design.
Last years AFR catalog had 305 heads but now they don't have them, I was wondering what size they are.
Are the World SR better than the Torquers. The SR chambers are 67cc or 76cc and the Torquers only come in 58cc.

well, stock heads are 58cc, so unless your planning on lowering your compression, then i would stick with a 58cc head. i also think that having the bigger valves in the bigger combustion chamber may interfere with the small bore on a 305. worlds s/r heads are stock replacement and the torquers are one step up. *s/r=stock replacement* if i were going to put good heads on my 305 (which i may do) i would go with the world s/r torquer heads.

You're seriously considering putting $1500+ heads on a 305?
Not to beat a dead horse but in stock form, Vortecs outflow both the S/R's and the Torquers for less money especially if your running a carb. If your running a TPI, then the cost of the dedicated base might be not be worth it on a 305. The Vortecs can be milled to 60cc to keep your compression. The S/R chamber design is old and I wouldn't bother if I had the choice.

I wouldn't put those AFR's on a 305. First, their chambers are too big, I think they're like 68cc's, which means your compression is basically crap, unless you plan to hunt around for hi-compression 305 pistons. Second, just about all of the AFR heads come standard with 2.02/1.60 valves, which will not fit inside the 305's smaller bore. Not only that, a 305 doesn've have the potential to create enough airflow to justify the extra expense.

Actually I believe the 305 heads AFR had were their 170cc heads milled down to 58cc and they just cut their valves to 1.99/1.55 or around there. I thought they still made the heads.
You know you can run 2.02/1.60's on a 305 right? Well aftermarket ones with revised centerlines anyway, I've never tried GM casting 2.02/1.60's on a 305.

AFR made 305 heads, 56cc chambers, 190cc intake ports, and 1.990/1.550 intake/exhaust valves.
i know they made them back in 1997, no idea if they still make them now.
while the vavles are a little small, the ports are still big enough for a larger cubic inch motor. If you ever get tired of the 305, you could use the same heads, and a thick head gasket for a nice high compression 350.

The part number for those heads was PN 190 SHST. You are right. They were a dedicated 305 head with 1.990" intakes and 1.550" exhausts with a 190cc intake runner. They had a 58cc chamber. I am disappointed they dropped them from the line. AFR would add 2.02/1.60 valves for a nominal fee and they were the best kept secret for getting 11:1 compression in a 350 or 10.25:1 in a 327 without using a domed piston. The decks were also thick enough for additional milling. I bet if you called AFR they might tell you what retail outlet might have a set sitting on the shelf. Vortecs are hard to beat for the price, but if you've got some spare time on your hands you can port the stock 305 heads (as long as they're not TBI heads) and they will flow as much as, if not more than the vortecs for less, even with getting 1.94 valves cut in... Just an idea, that's what I'm doing with mine, but I'm doing even a bit more work to them (mill/tap for studs, cut for .530" teflon seals and possibly widen the spring pocket, but I'm not sure on the last part).

I'm trying to get to 12's with the future followings mods 3.42 gears, 4" cowl hood fiberglass, panhard rod, spohn sub frames, strut tower,MSD Super HEI kit(igntion6A, blaster coil), Nittos, and one of these HEADS.
Is it possible or do I need to add the Weiand Supercharger(100hp)?

More than likely that setup is not going to get you into the 12s. You'd need a great 60 ft better than perfect weather conditions and a tailwind. A 305 doesn't need big heads Vortecs would be more than enough or even the S/R heads. With one of those heads and the rest of your setup you should be able to get mid 13s with some time and patience.
What increase am I looking at for Cast Iron Vortec Heads over the stock LG4. Any weight differences either.
I would need to get new intake manifold then a right. I'm looking at the Edelbrock RPM Air Gap Vortec. Is this a good intake and would it cause any hood (stock) clearance problems.

AFRm does not make the 305 small chamber head anymore and there is no old stock heads left. I wanted them for my 302 project. The 68 cc chamber AFR head is scheduled to be discontinued also. AFR will only have 74 cc heads. They can mill them down to 56cc's if you want to mess with valve geometry to get them right. If I were building a 305 I would say the ZZ4 (Vette) heads are probably the way to go. They have as much flow as you will get in a bore that small.
