Knock And Temp Sensor!!!!!
When I was changing my starter last week I unplugged both the temp and knock sensor so I could get the starter out. I don;t think either of them had been touched in years. Ever since I got the starter in, I have had a really bad knock occuring. The temp has also been climbing deep into the red. Could I have damaged the senosr connectors enought to where neither of the sensors are working? The knock is very pronounced and the temp hasn't been in the red in over a year....so, I'm almost certian this could be the cause. What do you guys think about it?

Re: Knock And Temp Sensor!!!!!
The only temp sensor near the starter would be the cooling fan switch, I would remove the connection, and inspect the switch and the wire to the switch for foreign material, pinched wire when you mounted it perhaps, or a broken connector. I would do the same with the knock sensor. Does the knock occur at all RPM, or only at certain speeds? Double check both of those, and if you aren't sure, then I would say replace them. If your starter uses a shim, make sure it's installed properly. I misaligned my shim one time
and it sounded like an engine knock from it smacking the flywheel. Hope that helps.

Hmm, I wondered about the starter smacking the flywheel. The knock only happens at highway or above RPMs. The knock is not present at idle. If I rev it at idle, it will knock very loudly. I got under the car and inspected it, but I didn;t inspect it with the engine running.
Also, what part of the starter was hitting the flywheel when you had the problem?
