255 series tires all around?

I've got 16x8 TTII's and Now I have 245/50/16's. I am getting new tires for christmas and was thinking about going with 255/50/16s all around. This would give me a slightly taller and slight wider tire.

Anyone have pictures? I've seen 295s on a 8'' rims before and it still looks OK. I'm thinking 255's would be better because it would be harder to curb the rim with a wider tire...maybe help traction a hair to.

They make my car look a little lower because they take up wheel well space, but it's also too much sidewall for my tastes:

I have pics of my 255/50/16 on the back of my car on my other computer. I will post them or send them to you sometime this weekend.

From what I understand a 255/50 will mess with your speedo. There are calculators on the net somewhere that show you what size you need to get in order to not screw it up.
IIRC you'd need 255/45 to keep the overall height correct and still get your wider tire.

The 255 only raises total rolling diameter by about a half inch or less. My car is still within 1 or 2mph at 50mph.

Im sure my speedo isn't quiet right anyways. My car is supposed to have 15'' tires on it. And Im getting ready to get 3.73 gears. So the speedo is probably gonna be off somewhat even when I get the 3.73 speedo gear.

15" or 16" tires doesn't change anything to do with your speed. If your overall rolling diameter is the same, your speedo doesn't know the difference.

A 215 60 R 15 tire has the same diameter as a 245 50 16 tire.

You should have seen the tires on my 15'' rims when I bought it. If you don't like the way a 255 looks on a 8'' rim just imagine 235/60/15s on a 7'' rim. It was nasty looking. Had some crappy firestone firehawk tires. The tires were pretty much brand new but they didnt last very long at all.

I've got that on my Sport Coupe and had it on my old Firebird. It looks fine. I got 30k miles out of the tires on my SPort Coupe.
