Hot Wired
I just bought a 89 convertable IROC at a salvage yard auction. They started the car by turning the key on and jumpping it from a large blue wire in the main wire harness under the hood against the fire wall just over the steering wheel. When you turn the ignition lock, (wich looks like it has been punched out with a screw driver) everything works but the car will not turn over. I understand that some of these Camaros came with a key with a chip, but when I checked the RPO codes I could not find anything about that (unless it is one of the 6 I could not find what they were, IP2, L89, VQ1, VX1, VX6, YA7).
Thanks for any help

Welcome to thirdgen.org
The best thing for the car is to get a new cylinder lock and key, and new VAT's module. You might be able to score something used (like another column, key and VAT's module) in the classified section for a c-note or less.
Yes, your '89 has VAT's.
There's other ways around it, but thirdgen.org has a policy of not posting on how to defeat VAT's...just to keep the honest criminals honest
