Oil pan leak

I have a problem with the corner of the oil pan leaking after a rebuild. A hose was rubbing on the corner of the pan and the gasket where it stuck out. Ruined the hose/no problem, ruined the corner of the cork gasket/bigger problem. All I can think of is to loosen the bolts in the area, scrape out some of the old gasket and replace it with silicone. Any better ideas out there?
Thanks.

i'd guess that you've over tightened the oil pan bolts causeing the gasket to push out, other wise the gasket would stay in place. i'd drop the pan and replace the gasket if i was doing anything. i don't believe your method would be very sucessful.

Yep, time to bite the bullet.

Jack her up and put her on jackstands and crawl under.

Get a one piece oil pan gasket(Detroit, Fel Pro, etc.) that has the built-in torque limiters at the bolt hole areas. This prevents over-torqueing the bolts. Use NO sealant, just insure that there isn't any oil on the pan rails or the gasket.

You'll be leak free from now on, and the gasket is reuseable over and over. There are versions for the valve covers too.
