Flat or roller? Help.
How do I find out without taking my intake off if i have a flat or roller taper cam?
Can somebody answer my question below adbout head portng, please.

An '89 IROC will be equipped with the hydraulic roller cam/lifters. The only way it would be different would be if a previous owner had swapped a flat tappet cam in it's place, highly unlikely. The only way to tell without pulling the intake is to look at the cam gear. The roller cams have a slightly different bolt pattern (I emphasize SLIGHTLY), the spacing is just a bit different.

Actually, Mark, there is a ANOTHER way to tell. Yank the valve cover, put on some rocker arm clips to deflect the oil and start the motor. If it's a flat tappet cam the pushrods will spin when the motor is running. If they DON'T spin, you have a roller tappet cam.
