Would it be possible to make a 1978 350 from a truck pass emissions? i also would like to do vortecs and a cam sometime, is there any friggin way that this would be able to pass? would it not be too smart to put this in my '86 iroc or should i do it? i found this engine very cheap and i just want to know if i could make it work with my car.

bigger duration cam = bad emissions...
higher octane gas (needed if u run high compression) = bad emissions
i dont know if thats a tpi or carbed, but a good tuning on the jets on a carb and a retard of the timing can help alot...
I think if u read up on here cause theres a slew of things people do to get their car e-check ready, you should be able to pass.
Do a search here on this board, find all the info u need.

In stock form yes, with a mild cam yes with vortec heads and an aftermarket intake probably not. The only issue you will run into using this 78 engine is the dipstick tube location, headers solve this problem but some smart A$$ smog tech might say hey boss looky here doesent look like a stock engine too me.
Another issue you might consider is most mid 70's up 350 engines are lame with thier smog heads and stock cams. My 76 came with the best 350 offered 180hp so something has to be done to show any improvment with you swap.
