i thought that the 200C driveshaft on 82 F-bodys are a different size then the 83-up 700R4.

The aluminum driveshaft was also an option offered from GM. It was RPO code JG1, and you can get the driveshaft from a Chevy dealer.

Hope this helps,

Jason

Also, I know the LS1 aluminum drivershaft fits LT1 F-bodies. And the LT1's 1LE driveshaft is the same as the 3rd gen 1LE, so the LS1 should fit '83+. Why the LS1? Because it is 3" diameter vs 1LE/JG1 2.75" (1LE/JG1 has a slightly thicker side wall), plus the LS1 is cheaper (roughly $220 retail from GM IIRC). In the CamaroZ28.com's GP forum they are trying to set up a GP on these, might be beneficial.

If you seriously want an aluminum driveshaft for a decent price, try not to trip over all the used ones I see for sale constantly in the classifieds on this same site. And yes, manuals and autos both use the same one. Mine came from a T5 car, and it's now behind a 700R4. You'll probably faint if you see what the dealership wants for a brand new one.

Zozo,

The thirdgen shaft will fit your 85, auto or manuel; however, you may be forced to swap the rear U-joint to a different size. That, at least, was the case with my 85 IROC and with several people I've sold to. I can provide you with the part number. By the way, I do have two 1LE shafts currently. Both have slip yokes and are balanced, but are missing the rear U-joint caps (I'd replace as a matter of practice). Should you or anyone else be interested or have other questions or concerns, please e-mail me.
