What is the right cam/manifold choice
What is the right cam/manifold choice
I am building a 406 but need some help with my cam choice.
It is a 400 .030"
Speed pro forged pistons yielding 9.78 CR with 64 cc heads. I am using stock (ported) which are 72 cc I believe.
Forged H-beam 5.7 inch rods
Forged crank
1.6 RR
Holley 950 commander 900cfm 4 barrel throttle body injection.
I was thinking about using the Comp Cams Magnum 280 H cam, but have no idea what intake to go with. This engine will be daily driven on the street and dragged on the weekend with some nitrous every once in a while. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Put your money into a set of aftermarket cylinder heads before you buy a fuel injection system.
Always use the best head you can afford, first. The Holley Commander 950 EFI is a nice piece but you'll go way faster for your $$$'s with good hi perf heads and a carb.
You have two good choices for a manifold for a weekend warrior.
A Edelbrock Vic Jr will favour the top end and will like a larger cam, higher rear gears and a high stall converter.
A Performer RPM dual plane will favour the midrange rpm more.
Either will work well. Either will fit under a stock hood with the right air cleaner.
A Comp Cams Extreme energy 284H will make a good dual purpose
street strip cam and will work nicely in a 400 with NOS.
Will favour a 3000+stall and 3.73/4.10 rear gearing.

Well, the only heads that are really in my budget are the World Products S/R torquers or the World Products Sportsman II heads. Which one do you guys think would be better?
This engine is going to be mostly streeted so I probably don't want as high of a stall converter as F-bird was saying. I was thinking maybe a 2250-2500 stall converter.
The XE274H looks like it is more what I am looking for. But, maybe with the extra cubes in the 406 that will make it seem a little more tame than in a 350. I will go with a dual plane intake though for sure, so I just need to find one that I like. Do a little more research. But I still need help with the cam selection. Thanks very much.

The Sportsman II's.
For cam selection, contact the manufacturers' help departments. Don't limit yourself by saying what intake you want to use, etc.; rather tell them the use and results you intend. Pick the intake and stall speed to match the cam (they'll help you with that as well).

The heads will come with a sheet explaining exactly how to drill the steam holes.
