How To Reach 340 HP ?

I'm havin a motor built, I want it in the 340 HP range. I'm using a stock 350 block, how should it be set up to reach 340 HP? What changes need to be done to make a 350block put out 340HP the fastest, easiest, and smartest way possible?

-Bore it out, or not bore .030 or what?
-Cam what lift, dur? block has vortec heads i believe
-Heads stick with vortec, port it out maybe,
-change anything else on motor, exhuast manifolds?

Ya, it all depends on this and that, just all I want to do is take this 350 block and have it be pushin 340 HP, block is stock right now and I can do whatever to reach 340 HP.

The motor wont have emissions, will have A/C and Power Steering. Motor is for a 1991 Camaro RS with a 305, 700R4tran, stock rear in it right now. Motor will have Holley 650 or 750 DP, and edelbrock performer intake, or will I need a different intake now? HEI controlled. Want to eliminate computer.

My rear will need stepped up, right? what to? My tranny will be modified, ***** pulled except a few, holes then ported. shift kit and corvette servo going in. Think I need a different stall and what a stock stall is? How big 2200 or what?

THANKS FOR THE ADVICE AND HELP, YOUR INPUT IS APPRECIATED!

How did you pick 340 HP?

Do you want that number to be gross flywheel (what they use for crate engines), net flywheel (the way factory ratings are published), or rear wheel HP (real world power)?

What are the casting numbers of these heads? Power is a function of flow, flow is a function of the heads (and cam).

if you wanna ditch the computer your vats problem will go away but you will also need to use a clutch fan or somethin like that instead of your electric fans unless you wanna have to wire up a switch or somethin.

Dont bore it if you dont have to, check the cylinder walls for imperfections, then have the taper measured. Boring a motor doesnt add significant HP.

When you bore when its not needed you are wasting a life cycle of the motor. Kind of like a cat has 9 lives, you can run 150,000 miles on your stock bore, then bore the block and run another 150k, hopefully. Then take it further for another life. People who bore the block .060 over automatically because they think they are gaining power from ci are really just shooting themselves in the foot, because if something goes wrong now with the block at maximum bore, they now need a new block, or sleeves.

340 at the wheels with vortecs probably won't happen. That would be over 400hp at the flywheel. Your gonna have to have a real good set of heads like edelbrock E-tec 200cc, protoplines, trick flows...something better than vortecs.

And a very nice camshaft. Something that will be on the verge of streetable. Your stock rear-end would probably hold that kinda of power as long as you dont run slicks. Get a HD torsion zexel posi, good gears, weld the axle tubes, and put new bearings in it. It would hold.

I personally would work on getting the rear-end finished first. Like LCAs, panhard rod, posi, and gears. Then worry about making power. I put a brand new 350 in mine with some goodies to find it still slow...because it won't stop spinning.

You could build a decent 350 FWHP motor with the vortecs. That should be enough to get you to low-mid 13's. 340RWHP sould yield somewhere in the 12's probably. You could also build a milder motor with the vortec heads and put a 100hp shot of nitrous on it. It would be cheaper, still be very street friendly, and youd still run the times your looking for.

my bad,, i wanna go with 350 FWHP not WHP..... i was confused on that..... see i'm going to pry have all this done at once, actually for sure i am, and the guy is older has cancer and doesn't have to long to live and has a nice chunk of money and a few sheds full of blocks and heads and all that good stuff... i'm good friends with him and hes going to do this all for free basically, givin me any part that he has,, only thing costin me a penny is if i have to buy somethin that he don't have that we want,,, hes a great guy and so i'm worried about motor, tran, and rear all at once...
