Major distributor deal....help!!!!

I've been getting this horrible sputtering/missing/backfire outta my 305TPI lately, only every once in a while. Cold or hot doesn't matter, just whenever it wants to. I put a new Ignition Module or her last night, and it hasn't done it yet but I think it will return, when I pulled the dist cap, the top of the rotor has some pretty good wear/grinded down from the cap, why is this happening?!?!?!? I've never seen a rotor get grinded down, but something tells me I need a new dizzy to fix this. Please help, thanx

if there's enough movement in the shaft to allow the rotor to grind or even touch anything i'd suspect it's time to start shopping for a distributor

my 87 did the same thing, started to miss and carry on ,sometimes it did not even want to start.even putting in a new rotor ,cap, wires and moduale it still ran like crap, long story short,i had to go to the local junkyard(only one out of three junkyards in my area had one)and put out $60.00 dollars for a used one.checked ebay at the time and they were going for $100.00 or more,my distributor has the external coil. but once i replaced it ran as good as new.mine was like yours it had little metal filings in it. good luck.

You can buy a new HEI distributor and coil at summit for 150 bucks. Mallory, are they any good?
