performance tips

I am the proud owner of a 1985 IROQ 305 TPI. I am looking for inexpensive ways to increase my horse power and be street legal at the same time. Any tips?

Welcome aboard.

Quick answer to your question: Yes. It's called "nitrous oxide".

Other than that, the answers are no, they're all expensive. But, they are do-able. The main problem is that the '85 TPI was their first effort, and wasn't so great. The later '86-on MAF systems were better, even though they still have their limits.

The exhaust, heads, and cam I have in my sig applies to you, though.

Iroq? hehe!

anyway, what is your idea of "inexpensive"? it helps to know what your budget is before you start. If your in the $100 range, I guess you could get some K&N's and a muffler, if your in the $400 range, I would add a set of headers to that, after that I would start doing suspension if yours is feeling a bit lazy.

try some of the free mods (tb bypass, porting the plenum, gutting airboxes ect...) they have tech articles here on the main page for them, none of them make much of a difference by themselves but altogether you may get 10-15 free hp. then do the cheap stuff like K&N's and a better muffler/catback.
