Flywheel interchangeablity ?'s
Hey Guys,
I want to take the T5 out of an 87 IROC and put it behind a 283 SBC. I'm pretty sure the trans will physicly bolt up considering it is replacing a TH350. So here is my question... does any one know if the flywheel for the 305 in the Iroc will work on the '67 283? If not, I'm going to have to find one that will, and then am I going to have to come up with some crazy clutch config to make everthing work?
This may sound all like stupid questions but I'm pretty new at this parts swapping stuff but I'll be greatfull for any info

No it won't fit. You will need a flywheel for a two piece rear seal crank that is 153 tooth. The clutch from the '87 will fit that wheel.
Yep, like he said the 153 tooth two piece. I had a rough time finding a good used one.
Way to go with the 283, I love it when people dare to be different. I am sure a lot of people will say you are nuts, but I like the idea...

Thanks for the info.. it's exactly what I needed to know. I found one of those flywheels in the P.A.W catalog for about $200, but I will try a few other places aswell.
As for the 283, yes it is differant and I like that. Plus it fits with the period of the car. Why scrap a perfectly good engine just to be like everyone else? I'm just looking forward to shifting my own gears.. and highway cruizin' in overdrive
Thanks again for the help!
