Startup problem -- it starts, but very oddly.

Ok, I'm having an odd start up problem. I go to start it (cold or warm, doesn't seem to matter) and I get this:

http://www.danielbuck.net/wip/crank.mp3

The engine DOES start, it starts up than dies to nothing for almost a full second, then starts back up to an idle of about 800, then does the normal warmup and slowly goes back down to about 550-600.

What gets me, is that as soon as it cranks and bogs out, I don't touch anything and it shoots right back up and idles just fine. I don't hit the gas or anything. Now, when it's cold (like early in the morning) it sometimes will die the first time I come to a stop if I don't let it warm up.

Would having the fan come on with the ignition be a problem here? The computer was just disconnected for a cam swap and tuen up, could it still be learning the startup? I think I have gone atleast 60 miles already, and started it up about 8 times maybe?

This is fuel injected TPI here, not carbed. (it sounds like carb from the .mp3 file!)

anyone had this problem? the engine is a 350 crate with a fresh melling MTC-1 camshaft, and a bunch of other new parts: ranging from ignition to water pump.

I get that from time to time on my 91Z w/TPI 350. Never really gave it any consideration because 75% of the time it fires up just fine. My car never dies when this happens though.

well, it looks like the computer learned how to start the engine now today it didn't do it at all, it just fires right to about 900ish, then after about 10 seconds dips back down to 600ish. I guess the computer just needed a little bit longer to "learn" the engine crank maybe? I don't know, but it seems to have corrected itself.
